Narrative strategy is the deliberate work of deciding what story your company tells about itself, and making sure that story holds up everywhere it shows up. It is not your brand voice or your tagline. It is the underlying account of why your business exists, how it makes money, and why that matters, expressed clearly enough that a customer, an investor, and a new hire would all describe you the same way.
Most companies never write this down. They have a logo, a set of talking points, and a homepage, but no single account that explains the business as a whole. So the story fractures. Sales says one thing, the website says another, the founder says a third in a podcast. Narrative strategy closes that gap by treating the story as a decision leadership makes on purpose, not a byproduct of marketing.
The test of a working narrative strategy is simple. Can everyone in the company explain what you do and why it matters, in their own words, without contradicting each other? If not, you have messaging. You do not yet have a narrative.
